Why read the Bible?

To meet with God

The Bible is like a love letter from God. He wants us to have a personal relationship with him. In the Bible he speaks directly to us. In prayer we respond to him.

To understand what we believe

In our world there are many conflicting ideas - other faiths, New Age and secular thinking. We need to know what we believe and to have confidence in it. The Bible is our primary source.

To help us become the people God wants us to be

Romans 8 v29 tells us that God's greatest goal for us is to make us like Jesus. As we read the Bible God challenges us about aspects of our lives, showing us where change is needed. Through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in prayer those changes will become a reality.

To become effective servants

God calls us to serve him. We will only do that as we understand our faith and experience the growth and development mentioned earlier. The Bible gives us models of service. It reminds us of our obligation to meet the needs of the world - practical and spiritual.

It is never too late to begin reading the Bible daily and there are many Bible reading Notes to help you.
